Quilts, Quilts, Everywhere....Quilts!!!

The second Saturday every July, Sisters, OR hosts a quilt show. This year marked their 35th year and mom and I decided to see what all the fuss was about.

These are the 3 Sisters Mountains....

We were lucky to stay with Karla, who lives there and has a B&B for "quilt week."

The first night, we visited Suttle Lake Lodge, which was phenomenal to behold....

The next day we went to investigate the quilting classes that were being held at the local high school. We also wanted to find mom's BFF, Gail, who was working on a top secret quilt...

The top secret was an Abraham quilt for me!!

I can't wait until this is finished! It will definitely be hung in my classroom.... : )

A nice lady gave us the pattern to paper piece these circles. The people in town were all so approachable and friendly. It felt truly like a sisterhood of quilters.

This quilt was hanging in a store and I thought Adam would like to see it.

These cool "flowers" were in front of an antique mall & I thought that Camille and I could/should make some!

OK ~ so mom bought a $4 hat to cover her "bad hair day" and honestly, EVERYWHERE we went people remarked on how cool it looked. It became quite the inside joke, because I thought it was somewhat of a "village people" hat. Truthfully, she looks great in it : )

This is the biggest dandelion that I have ever seen.

The next day we went into Bend and floated down the Dechutes River with some of Gail's friends Sally and Donna.. We walked our floats up the river about 20 minutes & floated back for 45 minutes just past where we started. It was awesome, amazing, and perfect.

Karla's B&B

There were deer everywhere in town, just cruising around, eating people's landscaping. Forget about planting a garden in town!

That evening we went to the annual Quilt Show picnic with some of Karla's friends. We ate a wonderful assortment of salads and berries. It was a very fun evening.

The purpose of the picnic and quilt show this year was to honor it's founder, Jean Wells, who owns the local sewing store. She has written many books and is probably the single most influential woman in Sisters. This year she was inducted into the Quilter's Hall of Fame, and the theme of the event was "Inspired Journey."

There was a quilt walk of some featured quilts & I captured a few that I liked:

This one is an actual Japanese style fish painting of a salmon caught in Alaska.

The next day was the actual quilt walk around town. The quilts were hung in a variety of ways all throughout the town. It was pretty spectacular.

Someone made this quilt using Crown Royale bags.... Interesting...... and expensive !

There were an estimated 20,000 people in town for the show! Pretty impressive considering that there are only 1701 residents...

This was the featured quilt by Jean Wells that was the poster for the show and main raffle item.

Holly, this is the same fabric that you made my quillow out of... It was done by a technique called "Stack & Whack."
